Prof. Dr. Dr. med. Jens K. Habermann
President, ESBB (European, Middle Eastern & African Society for Biopreservation and Biobanking) Head, Interdisciplinary Center for Biobanking-Lübeck, University of Lübeck & University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein, Campus Lübeck

Im Folgenden eine Zusammenfassung zum Inhalt des Vortrags:

Central Biobanks supporting Precision Medicine:
Regional and International Opportunities through ESBB

Hospital-integrated Biobanks do not only collect, preprocess, store and release samples and/or associated clinical data; they also perform pre-analytical research, offer various downstream analyses themselves or in collaboration, receive and contain sample-associated research data, and make those accessible for both (i) translational research and (ii) clinical therapy guidance. Thus, clinical biobanks are acting highly interdisciplinary in order to enable high quality translational research and optimization of clinical treatment decisions. Remaining challenges though are data protection & consenting, IT-infrastructure, pre-analytics & quality management, and an automation based closed cooling chain for sample processing. ESBB is addressing these topics in varies interdisciplinary working groups according to its vision Empowering Biosharing. This presentation will showcase the opportunities of central clinical biobanks and how the ESBB community addresses nowadays and future challenges for modern biobanking.
